Gifts That Give Back
Last week, we gathered to host a very special Valentine’s Day party for a group of at risk youth at an area high school. The youth at this school have seen and experienced many things that most of us cannot imagine. Some of these youth are walking the hard road of teen pregnancy and motherhood. Some are trying to figure out what to do next in life and how they can grow to be independent, successful young adults. Our community supporters, volunteers and Life Coaches have committed to being a consistent influence for these youth and show up every week to teach them life skills, listen to them and help them navigate hard things in life.
We partnered with one of our generous supporters, Jeannie Barsam, Founder and CEO of Gifting Brands, to provide these youth with a special day filled with love, fun, encouragement and inspiration! Jeannie’s organization is a leader in luxury retail inventory philanthropy and has revolutionized the way that big brands manage excess quantity in order to do good for those in need in communities across the nation. With a heart for women, children and families, Jeannie has built her organization around benefiting these often marginalized groups. From her website, “Jeannie believes that, ‘When you help one child you can change a whole generation,’ and each nonprofit has been carefully selected for its expertise in sectors ranging from homelessness, childhood education, domestic violence, and access to clean water.”

During the Valentine’s Day party, our youth were given the unique opportunity to make their own jewelry! In addition to being a passionate non-profit leader, Jeannie is also a skilled at making jewelry. Jeannie led the youth through an inspiring and creative jewelry making class while providing insights on entrepreneurship and business leadership. The youth left with beautiful bracelets and a boost of confidence that they can not only do hard things but that they CAN accomplish their dreams!
